“Divinely Inspired” is a pretty lofty slogan, don’t you think? French Fry Heaven would really have to be something pretty darn awesome to live up to that moniker. Well let’s break it down and take a look at how we arrived at that thought.
French Fry Heaven was a gift of divine providence. I was working as a university administrator in charge of shuffling paper from one side of a desk to another. My future was bright if you consider daily meeting with paper pushing regulators to review how we were living up to section B, section 47B, clause 29.2 of regulation 476595.45; having only the worst students at a school come into my office (the vast majority were great, but mostly the nimrods found their way to my office to complain about some teachers unfair demand that they actually show up for class and do some work!), jumping through board directed hoops and waiting for the latest lawyer letter to show up demanding payment for some former employee who was unfairly terminated because they fell asleep at graduation, on stage and showed their goods to the families of the graduates (true story!). The fun part of running a school is the students who are striving for greatness and the faculty and staff trying to help them get there. Unfortunately, when you are high up on the food chain, you don’t get to spend a lot of time with those folks. It was one of those moments of spectacular boredom that I was blessed with the opportunity to take my parents on their dream 50th anniversary trip to Europe and everything changed!
Strolling the cobble stone streets of northern Europe I discovered a small shop selling nothing, but French fries. How awesome is that! Just fries! I watched the lines of smiling customers and happy owners and the idea of a US based version slipped into my brain. It was as if it was calling to me. I continued my tour and find these little fry stands everywhere and everywhere, people were happy. I was struck with a bolt of inspiration; “hey we can do that!” I came home and called a friend about the idea. As divine providence would have it, he was doing a vegan festival in two weeks and asked me to join him. I did, it worked, we rolled and the rest is history. French Fry Heaven itself was divinely inspired right from the start.
Divine also refers to excellent and delightful and that totally explains the French Fry Heaven menu. With our food guru Gregg leading the way, we created a menu that is totally unique and really really awesome! We originally served squirty toppings on frozen fries, but we quickly figured out that people wanted more on top and nobody wants frozen fries. You know what tastes better frozen? Forking nothing! Gregg got us to go totally fresh, from start to finish. If we were going to create everything from scratch, then we better create some pretty amazing stuff.
Gregg and his team were truly inspired when they created our new menu. Think of Edison, Einstein, Curie, Carter or Franklin in their lab unleashing pure creativity. Think of Mohammed Ali leaning against the rope inventing an unheard of strategy which led to a knock out vs the unbeatable George Foreman. Think of Dr. Seuss or Beethoven crafting words and sounds that had never existed in the world before. Such was the divinely inspired process that led to the creation of the French Fry Heaven menu; totally new and forking magical!
Divine also is used to describe spirituality. We do not endorse one religion over another, cause let’s face it; we are unlikely to know the complete truth about that until way after we are gone from this world. However, to walk in the divine is to put the good of others above the wants of ourselves. French Fry Heaven exists to make people happy and that is an awesome way to make a living! People are blown away when they first walk into French Fry Heaven and they are even more amazed when they sit down to eat. Making people feel great is just about as divine as it gets!
That focus on the divine gets even better when we think about. As we see it, you walk into French Fry Heaven after having a tough day and we shock you right out of your bummer mood. Suddenly you find yourself full and happy. You leave in a better mood than when you came. Then you go home to your spouse, your buddies, your kids, your dogs, whatever, and you bring that happy spirit to them; then they feel better. What do they do next? They bring that positive vibe with them wherever they go next. So the divine inspiration we put into French Fry Heaven has a ripple effect on the universe. Sure it may be a small thing, but adding a bit of love to the world is a pretty cool thing.
So does “Divinely Inspired” capture French Fry Heaven? Oh heck yeah! History is full of the great inventors, individuals rising up to face insurmountable challenges, geniuses creating new directions and everyday people putting action behind their words. French Fry Heaven was born of divine inspiration, with a menu of pure inspiration and we put the heart of the divine in everything we do. Divinely Inspired is not just a tag line, it’s how we have done and do everything!
